Sep 8, 2025
Have you ever felt ~embarrassed~ buying pads or tampons? Or had that mortifying moment when your dad or brother found out you were on your period? Yep, same.
But now, one Gen Z-founded brand is turning period stigma into empowerment and they're doing it sustainably.
The Founders Behind the Movement
Meet Nick & Nadya, both Forbes 30 under 30 honorees, reimagining period care. Co-Founder and CEO, Nadya Okamoto, is a graduate from Harvard University and period care activist using her education and access to create a brand leading with positive social change. Alongside, Co-Founder and COO, Nick Jain, a recent Princeton graduate and multiple company founder.
August, The Gen Z Period Care Brand
August is more than a period care brand, it’s a movement reshaping how the world things (and talks!) about period. On a mission to remove period stigma and revolutionize the period industry, the Ultra-comfy period care products by August are bringing transparency and sustainability into an industry previously shaped to make consumers feel ashamed and embarrassed.
Social Impact and Sustainability
Through her work in the nonprofit sector, Nadya recognized the need for more sustainable options in the period industry and a desire to share a new message empowering menstruators. Already building another company with Nick, Nadya shared her idea and her bold mission to build a brand for Gen Z.
The duo sought out to create a brand with sustainability, inclusivity, accessibility, and transparency as their core pillars.
With previous experience building, Nick & Nadya, dove straight into research mode learning everything they could about the industry, manufacturing of products, and identifying gaps in the market. As they continued to grow August, they shared every step with their consumers. On their website, August shares how your August product is made and shipped to you.
Making an Impact while Building
August continues to grow and is not waiting to make an impact. In just 5 years, August has led over 7 sustainable projects from recycling in Indonesia, to organizing community beauty clean-ups in California, to generating gas into electricity in China. They are currently available in over 1000+ stores nation-wide, including Whole Foods. They are staying digitally present with their customer base, gaining over 189k+ followers on Instagram, almost half a million followers on TikTok, and receiving over 17M likes.
Take Control of Your Period
Period care products are delicate and it’s important to know what ingredients are in the products we use and who is making it. August is giving consumers clear transparency in their products, and offering consumers peace of mind knowing they are safe every month.
With 1% of revenue going to sustainability-focused nonprofits, they’re proving that profit and purpose can go hand in hand!
