two 21-year-olds are rebuilding how we connect: series, the ai social network
meet series, a Gen Z–built social platform reimagining connection
Aug 17, 2025
What if your next co-founder, best friend, or soulmate isn’t someone you find—but someone you’re introduced to? Forget doom-scrolling and cold DMs—Series is reimagining connection in the age of AI.
Meet the Founders
Series founders, Nathaneo Johnson and Sean Hargrow, were two 21-year old students at Yale with a new bold idea, determination, and relentless speed. In just under 14 days, the two college students raised $3 million to build a new way for people to connect. As founders from underrepresented groups, Johnson and Hargrow are creating a new version of the Harvard story.
Series: the ai social network_
With the belief that AI can reimagine how people connect online and remove the pressure of polished posts, Series is reinventing how we connect on social platforms. According to their LinkedIn, “Series is a social network of AI friends and real people connecting you to who you need, when you need it.”. With the goal of making real connections easier, Series AI friends make warm introductions for you to find your vibe match. Think: the perfect AI-powered wingman introducing you to like-minded people based on your interests, background, and goals.
I personally love when my friends tell me, “I know someone you would get along with!” and then you actually hit it off. That’s what these AI friends do. They get to know you, your likes, dislikes (perhaps?), interest, goals, and with the help of a bit of technology they find you a great match.
Don’t be confused tho this isn’t a dating app… or is it? Series pairs you with people that match your vibe and you decide what to make of it. Will they be your new best friend? Future Co-Founder? Running Mate? Lover? 😉
Building From the Ground Up
The idea for Series came from a simple problem: social media feels... fake. Curated, filtered, competitive. Nathaneo and Sean were looking for a way to bring back genuine connection. The kind of serendipitous connection you get when a mutual friend introduces you to someone who just gets you. So they asked: what if AI could be that friend?
Armed with Notion, Figma, sheer grit, and a dream, the two built their prototype in weeks—getting feedback from students, creators, and founders across campuses and Twitter threads. Their pitch? Real connections, minus the awkward intros. Investors loved it and so did users. In less than two weeks, they closed a $3M seed round and started building v1 with a small remote team of engineers and creatives.
The Marketing Playbook
With over 19k followers on LinkedIn, Series has been growing rapidly. Bringing in a new team, growing their social media presence, and reaching as many eyes as they can. Earlier this month, Series launched their Version 3 and hit 200k profiles within a week.
But would this really be a Gen Z startup without a bold, chaotic, extra twist?
Introducing - The Series ✨
Streaming on tv.series.so, Series is changing up the marketing game by turning marketing graphics into an engaging reality show. Students from across the globe competed for a coveted internship and $100,000 cash prize. The finalists were flown to the Hamptons for a multi-week competition filled with content challenges, startup chaos, and Gen Z energy.
Startup to Movement
Series is building something for us, by us—proof that you don’t need a Harvard badge, a trust fund, or 10 years of experience to create impact. The Series team is using their momentum, capital, and virality to invest into the next generation of leaders. Regardless of school, background, privilege, the team is betting their money on bold ideas and creators.
They're also betting big on the next generation—creating space for students, builders, and dreamers to not just watch, but participate.
